It just felt like he was manipulating her a bit so her friends don't die. They definitely make me cringe and some of their scenes definitely rubbed me the wrong way. I'm also not a big fan of Julian and Jenny being together. I'm not necessarily looking for a wow factor but just a genuinely good book. Not sure if this trend of reading okay books will continue when it comes to L.J.'s books but I hope I find one (in any series) that I really enjoy. It wasn't overly graphic, but it certainly hinted to it. One of the opening scenes is about a guy that enjoys killing animals (reminded me about the warning signs of serial killers) and he is killed by some shadow animal. As far as violence goes, there is a little more in this book than in book 1. The characters are juniors in high school and have paired up into boyfriend/girlfriend, but really only kissing occurs between them (i.e. As I mentioned in my review for book 1 - I read a lot of young teen books to preview them for our school library, and I think this series would be a great addition. I think it would be great for grades 7 and up. Julian gives Jenny one chance to play this new game - if she wins, she is released from the oath she made at the end of book 1, if she loses, she belongs to him.dun, dun, duuuunnnn! It's scary, but not to jenny thought she contained Julian at the end of the last book, but when she and her friends are chased by strange creatures and no one can sleep without having a nightmare, it is clear that Julian has escaped and is pissed! The game is clearly not over but has changed.
